The Department of Parks and Recreation in Waimea will hold a basketball league from Jan. 27-March 12.

Register online at waimeaathletics.org or at Thelma Park Gym from 3:30-5 p.m. Clinics on those days will be led by Fred Wawner, co-coach of the Hawaii Prep boys basketball team. Clinics begin at 3:30 for ages 9 and 10 and 4:30 for ages 11-14.

The Department of Parks and Recreation will hold an meeting for T-ball (ages 5-6) and coach-pitch (7-8) on Dec. 9 at Aunty Sally’s Luau House.

County winter

hoops tourney

The Hawaii Isle Police Activities League, in collaboration with the Department of Parks & Recreation, will hold its 34th annual “Winter Basketball Classic” tournament Dec. 26-29, at various sites in Hilo.

Entries are being accepted for age groups: 5-6, 7-8, boys 9-10, girls 10-under, boys 11-12, girls 12-under, boys 13-14, and girls 14-under. The age cutoff date is Dec. 31, 2014.

All championship games will be played Dec. 29 at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

Registration for age group 8 and younger is $60 per team, for 9 and older is $80 per team, and for neighbor island teams, $25 per team. Deadline for team entry is Nov. 28.

Registration forms can be picked up at all police stations or on the County of Hawaii’s Department of Parks and Recreation web site.
