The Rotary Club of Hilo 2014 “Hilo Brewfest” proceeds benefited two very important organizations in East Hawaii, the Hilo Medical Center Foundation and The Friends of the Children’s Justice Center, East Hawaii.
Proceeds from the Hilo Brewfest amounted to $9,808.93 per organization, but a generous Rotarian donated enough to round up each check to $10,000.
The checks were presented to Julie Tulang, president of the Hilo Medical Center Foundation; Dr. Kristine McCoy of the Hilo Medical Center; and Robin Benedict, program director and Jill Jakunski, treasurer of the Board, from the Friends of the Children’s Justice center by past-president Kerry Glass and chairman of the Hilo Rotary Club Foundation Steve Handy.
These two agencies were selected for their valuable contributions to our community, as Glass said, “One takes care of our community’s health, the other takes care of our children. How can you do better than that?”
This donation is the fifth to the HMCF from the Hilo Rotary Club Foundation, and according to McCoy, the contribution from the HRCF has helped to get the program off the ground.
The first round of resident doctors is going strong and the second class is scheduled to begin July 1.
Lisa Rantz, executive director of HMCF, expressed her gratitude for the continued support of the Rotary Club of Hilo and the Hilo Rotary Club Foundation.
Robin Benedict also thanked the club and foundation, stating the Friends have helped more children this year and these funds will help them continue to serve the abused children of East Hawaii.
