HONOLULU (AP) — A former budget analyst for the state of Hawaii has been named deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Nani Coloretti was appointed Tuesday by President Barack Obama.
In her role, Coloretti will manage the department’s day-to-day operations, including a $45 billion budget and 8,500 employees.
Coloretti says the department is undergoing significant change as it works on the nation’s housing recovery.
Before joining HUD, Coloretti served as Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
In 2012, Obama appointed Coloretti as a member of the Government Accountability and Transparency Board. She helped establish the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau after the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reforms were passed.
