Police notified a Hilo elementary school as a precaution Wednesday morning after receiving a report of a suspicious person nearby.

Officers responded at 9:35 a.m. to a report of a suspicious man who was seen wandering on and around Waianuenue Avenue near Hilo Union School.

Police found a 28-year-old Pahoa man they described in a statement as “disoriented.” After speaking with officers, the man left the area without incident.

By coincidence, the school was in the process of conducting a lockdown drill at the time. No schools went on actual lockdown, police said.
