Dr. Louis Richard Fuka, 76, of Hilo died Dec. 1 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in New York, he was a mechanical and structural engineer for the federal government; worked at McDonnell-Douglas, helping design the Saturn rocket and C-5A cargo jet, and Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, working on the Antares laser fusion and superconducting magnetic storage projects; and was a member of Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church. Visitation 9:30-10 a.m. Monday at Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church, 326 Desha Ave. in Keaukaha. Memorial mass at 10 a.m. Luncheon to follow at Hale Kahakai. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Mary Fuka of Hilo; daughter, Mary Z. Fuka of Colorado; sons, Louis T. Satsuki Funai, 95, of Pahala died Dec. 8 at a private care home in Pahala. Born in Lahaina, Maui, she was a cafeteria worker at Ka‘u High and Pahala Elementary schools and member of Toho No Hikari/Mokichi Okada Association Hawaii. Services held. Survived by sons, Kenneth (Esther) Funai of Hilo and Roy (Karin) Funai of Pahala; daughters, Martha Hoki of Utah and Dora Min of Pahala; brother, Ralph Noboru Shino of Utah; sister-in-law, Anne Shino of Utah; 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, and cousins. Jack “Jackie” Joseph Loando Sr., 67, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 27 at Tripler Army Medical Center. Born in Kealakekua, he was a heavy equipment operator for McCandless Ranch, Guy Lam Construction Co., Hookano Ranch, EM Rivera &Sons and Kahanakoa Construction Co., and U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran, and avid hunter, fisherman and cowboy.
