A special coaches and junior players volleyball clinic will be held by University of Minnesota coach Hugh McCutcheon, the former head coach of the U.S. women’s Olympic team, which won a silver medal at the 2012 London Games, and men’s team that won gold at the 2008 Beijing Games.
The clinic will be held at the UH-Hilo Gym. Cost for the coaches is $50, which includes three sessions and USA volleyball insurance. The cost for the girls is $45, which includes three sessions and insurance. The cost for the boys is $35, which includes two sessions and insurance.
It is available to the first 30 players to sign-up with limited space.
On Saturday, Dec. 27, the coaches clinic (classroom and court) will be held from 10 a.m. to noon; boys (14-18 years old) and coaches from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; girls (8th grade only) and coaches from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at UHH Gym.
On Sunday, Dec. 28, it is the same time for the coaches clinic and boys and coaches clinic. The girls clinic (7th grade only) and coaches will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, Dec. 30, the girls 7th grade and coaches clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to noon; girls 8th grade and coaches from 1 to 3 p.m.; coaches clinic (classroom and court) from 4 to 6 p.m.
On Wednesday, Dec. 31, the girls 7th grade and coaches will be held from 10 a.m. to noon; girls 8th grade and coaches from 1 to 3 p.m.

Pirates in AJA play
Kiley Kawazoe collected a two-run double among his two hits and drove in three runs as the Keaukaha Warriors beat the Waiakea Pirates 8-2 last Sunday at Wong Stadium in the Hawaii AJA Memorial Baseball League.
Kele Coloma pitched a scoreless inning of relief of Aaron Correa and struck out two batters. Correa struck out six in three innings.
Tyler Thornley was 3 for 4 and Aaron Nishiura tripled for the Pirates (1-1).
Chase Komatsu was 2 for 4 for the Warriors (1-1), who have two games on tap Sunday. At 10 a.m. they play Corsairs and the Pirates and Warriors will play at 12:30 p.m.
UHH healthcare appreciation day
The University of Hawaii at Hilo will host a Healthcare Professionals Appreciation Day on Saturday at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
The Vulcans hosts 15th-ranked Brigham Young University-Hawaii in a Pacific West Conference basketball doubleheader. The women’s game begins at 4 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.
Free general admission seating will be available for healthcare professionals, spouses and all children under 12.
