James “Jim” Lee Kelly, 78, of Hilo died at home Dec. 16. Born in Wapello, Iowa, he was a retired University of Hawaii at Hilo geography professor, and was active in the photography club and University Alumni Board. Funeral is Saturday in Wapello, Iowa. Remembrance for friends and family to be held in February in Hilo. Survived by son, Robert (Aimee) Kelly; daughter, Margaret Kelly; two grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Lillian Eiko Sato, 86, of Hilo died Dec. 16 at a care home in Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a retired Waiakea Elementary School teacher, and member of Hilo Meishoin Kyodan and Fujinkai and Akaka Falls Lions Club. Friends may call from 3-4 p.m. Monday at Hilo Meishoin, 97 Olona St.; memorial service at 4 p.m. Casual attire. No koden or flowers. Donations may be made to Hospice of Hilo, 1011 Waianuenue Ave., Hilo, HI 96720. Survived by sons, Eric Sato and Russell (Janet) Sato; daughter, Lori (Ken) Kawano; son-in-law, Reginald Une; brothers, Kenneth Kuwahara, Masamitsu Okinaka, Bob (Pauline) Okinaka, Stanley (Carol Tokuda) Okinaka, Don (Jane) Okinaka and Yoshi (Kathy) Okinaka; sister, Jane Doi; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
