Friends of Viking golf tournament

Friends of Viking Golf is holding its 30th annual fundraising golf tournament on Jan. 24 at Hilo Municipal Golf course.

The format will be a two-person modified scramble with a 7 a.m. shotgun start.

Men older than 70 may use the gold tees. Prizes will be awarded at the clubhouse restaurant.

Entry forms are available at the Muni pro shop and driving range.

Cost is $70 per person early bird special includes green fees, cart, and lunch.

Piopio Bears junior tourney

The Piopio Bears Volleyball Club seeks teams for its 13th annual junior tournament Jan. 16-18 at Hilo Armory.

Age divisions are 10s (coed), 12s, 14s and 16s.

The Department of Parks and Recreation in Waimea will hold a bubble ball soccer jamboree for ages 10 and up from 9 a.m.-noon Jan. 31 at Waimea Park.

Hilo Little League sign-ups

Through Feb 28, Hilo Little League is holding registration for the following leagues:

• Baseball players ages 12-13 for a league with a 60-foot pitching distance and 70-foot base paths

• Baseball for ages 12-18

• Girls softball for ages 8-12

Track and field meets on tap

The Department of Parks and Recreation will be hosting its annual track and field meets for youngsters 6 through 14, with meets at Kamehameha and Konawaena on Feb. 7.

The exponent track and field meet will be on Feb. 21 at Kamehameha and Konawaena. Both start at 9 a.m.

Participants at Kamehameha School, will have to complete a indemnification form by their parent or legal guardian.
