UH-Hilo’s Mariah Paiste shot a team-best 83 in the final round of the St. Edward’s Invitational on Tuesday on the Onion Creek in Austin, TX.
Paiste finished in 55th place with a two-round 182 (99-83) as the Vulcans finished in 12th place. Shannon Abarra was the leading Vulcan with a 170 (78-92) to finish tied for 36th place. Also on the squad were Andi Igawa (T43, 84-90—174) and Erin Costes (T49, 93-85—178).
Indianapolis won the team title with a 606 followed by West Texas A&M (613), St. Edward’s (621), Arkansas Tech (627), Cal State Chico (648), Cal State East Bay (654), St. Mary’s-TX (665), Lubbock Christian (675), Cal State Monterey Bay (676), St. Martin’s (691), Arkansas-Monticello (701) and UH Hilo (704).
Vuls fall to Knights
The UHH women’s basketball team fell to Academy of Art 59-55 Tuesday night at UHH Gym.
Alexa Jacobs scored 15 points on 5 of 12 shooting and McKenzie Mangino scored 14 points on 7 of 16 shooting for UHH (8-14, 7-11 PacWest), which shot 33 percent from the field and lost its third straight.
Take away their shooting stats and UHH’s shooting clip falls to 26 percent (10 of 39).
Jasmin Guinn scored 28 points and grabbed nine rebound to lead the Urban Knights (17-9, 12-6).
UHH Hall of Fame
Nominations for the 19th UHH Vulcans Athletic Hall of Fame are being accepted by Vulcans Booster Club.
Categories for prospective honorees are athlete, coach, administrator and community member.
Athlete nominees must have completed their eligibility at UHH and completed their playing days at the end of the spring 2009 season. Exceptions may be made for inability to complete due to physical/medical reasons. Graduation from UHH is not a requirement, but graduates will receive preference from the selection committee.
Coach, administrator or community nominees must have made significant contributions that enhanced the image of Vulcan athletics. A coach or administrator must not have served the UHH athletic department in a paid capacity within the past five years. There is no waiting period for community nominees.
The nomination deadline is April 15 for Fall induction.

Underclassmen combine
The National Underclassmen Combine (NUC) will be held March 21 at Waiakea High’s field.
Registration is available at nucsports.com. The fee is $40 but there is a discount promo code: warriors2015.
Check-in starts at 8 a.m. and the combine Event starts at 9 a.m.

Panaewa free combine
The Panaewa Game Changing Empire Sports Combine will be held March 17-19. It is for the Classes of 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 for baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball and volleyball players.
Players can test their athleticism, compare scores with other athletes and have scores sent to college coaches nationwide.
There is no charge.
Registration is being held and closes on March 12 at piaahawaii.com.

Panaewa residents are asked to choose Panaewa Club under high school.

• March 17: indoor sports at Panaewa Gym. Registration from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and mandatory parent/player meeting from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Practice drills from 2 to 4 p.m.
• March 19 at Panaewa Gym. Check-n at noon for 10-yard dash, 20-yard dash, approach jump, vertical jump, pro agility shuttle and broad jump. Event runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
