Stella Kaaua Akana, 96, of Waimea died Feb. 17 at her residence. Born in Waimea, she was co-owner of Akana Petroleum, Harbor Fuels and A & S Farms, co-founder and lifetime member of Ka Hui Kapa Apana O Waimea Quilt Club, member of Annunciation Catholic Church Waimea, Kaahumanu Society, Hawaii Cattlemans Association, and Hawaiian Girls Golf Club. She was also a former employee of Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Parker Ranch, Hawaii Preparatory Academy and Alexander & Baldwin. Private services held. Memorial donations may be made to North Hawaii Hospice or Annunciation Church of Waimea. Survived by sons, Richard (Aulani) Akana of Kawaihae, Albert (Shirley) Akana of Keauhou, Spencer (Kim Kishi) Akana of Waimea; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Cremation Services of West Hawaii.

Eleanor Victoria Kapua Hutchinson, 93, of Hilo died Saturday, Jan. 10. Born in Honolulu, she retired as a postal clerk. She was a past member of the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club in Kailua, Oahu. Celebration of life to be held at Thy Word Ministries Faith Center (2085 Awapuhi St., Hilo) on Friday. Service at 10 a.m.; Visitation to follow at 11 a.m. Graveside Service at 11 a.m. at the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park (47-200 Kahekili Highway Kaneohe) on Wednesday, March 18. Survived by son, Gustav Carl Bechert II of Honolulu; daughters, Henrietta Elizabeth Kahala (Stan) Bechert-Wong of Volcano and Daphne Leina’ala Fabisiak of Hilo; brother, Vernon (Veronica) Santos of Honolulu; sister, Yvonne Souza of Honolulu; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
