The Konawaena graduate batted 3 for 4 with two RBIs as Pepperdine pounded the Rainbow Warriors 16-1 in the second of a four-game series.

Quintin Torres-Costa, a Waiakea grad, took a tough loss for UH (5-6). He started and went 1 2/3 innings and allowed eight runs (four unearned) on five hits and four walks, and whiffed two.
UH catcher Chayce Kaaua, a Hilo grad, batted 0 for 2, and second baseman JJ Kitaoka, a Konawaena graduate, went 0 for 3.
Jackson McClelland pitched eight innings of one-run ball for Pepperdine (5-5).

• Hawaii def. Long Beach State 25-22, 24-26, 25-14, 25-22: Taylor Averill cranked 14 kills on 22 swings and hit .545 to lead the Rainbow Warriors, who finished with a .224 hitting percentage on Friday before 1,056 fans volleyball at Walter Pyramid at Long Beach, Calif.
Sinisa Zarkovic and Brook Sedore each added nine kills and Kupono Fey had eight kills for UH (12-3, 9-2 MPSF).
Dan Galamack had 13 kills to lead the Beach (8-7, 5-7).
• Leisha Li’ili’i and Lindsey Willmon both launched grand slams in the first inning, and Hawaii overpowered San Jose State 14-1 in a five-inning TKO at the Aloha Tournament in Honolulu.
Keiki Carlos and Ulu Matagiese added two-run blasts in the third inning for the Rainbow Wahine (10-8) to back Kanani Aina Cabrales. Aina Cabrales (5-5) went the distance, allowing three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
The Spartans fell to 13-4.
UH plays Longwood at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
