HONOLULU (AP) — Honolulu authorities say a man in custody died after he jumped from a police vehicle and fell from a bridge.
The 37-year-old man was being transported Monday for medical treatment from the Kapolei police station.
According to authorities, the man managed to remove his handcuffs and kicked out the back window of the patrol vehicle.
Authorities say the man jumped out of the moving car on the H-1 freeway, crossed numerous lanes and then jumped over the concrete railing of the Honouliuli Bridge.
The man was transported to Queen’s Medical Center. He died at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
