iCAN is a free, fast-track and self-paced program designed to help you improve your reading, writing, math, computer and successful work related skills in preparation for a new career or degree programs leading to a new career. Improve your life by finding career pathways, whether that’s college or some type of workforce training.
Open to anyone older than 18, whether or not they have a high school diploma, this program attracts a wide variety of students who want to be prepared to join the workforce as they pursue a National Career Readiness certificate. More than 70 Hawaii Island residents already achieved the NCRC through this program.
“Doing the iCAN program helped build my self-esteem to have the confidence I needed to go out into the workforce.” said iCAN trainee Storm Smith. “The teachers are great and encouraged me every step of the way. Thank you, iCAN!”

The iCAN program is a collaboration between the Hawaii Community College and the state Workforce Development Division. It is funded under the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training Grants (C3T-1), as implemented by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
“iCAN has enabled me to enjoy learning again and gain the confidence to go forward and achieve more,” said iCAN trainee Angela Ealey.
