At least, the UHH softball team finally scored, but the runs came in Game 2 against Cal Baptist after 30 goose egg innings, and it was another loss.
The Lancers were the latest team that resembled a pitching powerhouse against the struggling Vuls, who dropped a pair of games, 5-0 and 4-2, on Friday at their campus field.
The doubleheader loss extended UHH’s losing streak to five games.
During that span, the Vuls have been outscored by Cal Baptist and Dixie State, 16-2.
In the 5-0 Game 1 loss, the Vuls wasted Vanessa Salinas’ eight innings of shutout ball.
Salinas (7-6) tired in the ninth, and gave up all five runs. It didn’t help that her defense let her down with two errors, giving the Lancers extra outs.
Loie Kesterson (12-4) fired a five-hitter and had trouble with only one UHH hitter, Colleen Aubrey, who went 2 for 5.
In the 4-2 Game 2 loss, UHH’s bats woke up and scored two runs in the first inning, but saw their bats go to sleep right after.
Kayla Hatch (12-2) tossed a six-hitter and also had trouble with Aubrey, who went 3 for 4, including a solo homer and raised her average to .453.
None of the other Vuls could manage more than a single.
Unlike Salinas, Danielle Wilson (5-5) at least got a few runs. She also threw a six-hitter and allowed four runs (one unearned).
Cal Baptist (24-6, 13-3 PacWest) and UHH (13-10, 7-6) play a series-closing doubleheader at noon Saturday at the campus field.
