Hilo graduate Chayce Ka’aua hit an RBIs single to cap three-run eighth inning for Hawaii. Ka’aua hit 1 for 4 with a run scored and Konawaena graduate J.J. Kitaoka was 0 for 4.

Chris Culp took the loss in relief, working three innings.

Men’s volleyball

The Rainbow Warriors were led by seniors Scott Hartley and Taylor Averill each posted 11 kills, and No. 4 UH bested Hope International 24-12, 21-25, 25-10, 25-17 to secure its 10th consecutive victory.

Hawaii (17-3) hit a scalding .700 in the first set and finished at .449 in securing its longest winning streak since 2007.

Brooke Sedore contributed nine kills and he passed Delano Thomas for third on the program’s all-time career aces list with 109.

Dominique Blonski put down 17 kills for the Royals (11-11), who hit .084.

Softball

Virginia Tech’s Katey Smith led off the sixth inning with a home run and Maggie Tyler kept the Wahine in their offensive doldrums in s 1-0 victory at Honolulu.

UH (17-13) fell to 0-4 at the Rainbow Wahine Classic and it’s scored just three runs in that span.

Kanani Aina Cabrales (8-8) struck out two and didn’t walk a batter in going the distance in defeat. She allowed six hits.

Tyker (9-4) was better, fanning 12 and yielding five hits – two to Sarina Jaramillo – and a walk.

Water polo

Gabbi Mantellato Dias tallied four goals, and Megan Ottoboni and Chloe Barr added two apiece as the Rainbow Wahine doubled up on Wagner 10-5 at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego.

Claire Nixon and Zoe Respondek also scored as UH (9-5) took a five-goal lead to halftime.

Ashley Arras recorded six saves.
