Swimmers were evacuated from the water at Hapuna Beach Park late Wednesday morning after a Kansas man was attacked by a shark.
In response to an 11:46 a.m. call, police responded to the South Kohala beach and learned that a 58-year-old man from Overland Park, Kans., had been snorkeling with family at the south point of the beach when a shark bit him on the arm.
The man was assisted to shore and taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital in Waimea, where he was treated for severe lacerations to his left forearm and injury to his left thigh.
