The Kamuela Philharmonic orchestra, conducted by its founder, Dr. Madeline Schatz, recently celebrated 10 years of bringing high-quality classical music to Big Island audiences. A highlight of the season is always the concerto competition. Alternate years feature string players or percussion players.
This year is a percussion year. The students apply, audition and are judged by professionals. They earn a unique opportunity to perform publicly.
Tchaikovsky’s rather controversial “Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64” is a rare treat. This stormy work is the flip side of the emotional coin of the world of music.
Special mahalos to the Dorrance Family Foundation, the Kahilu Theatre and the generous and loyal donors, audience and supporters.
