During the week of March 16-22, police arrested 12 motorists and one boater for driving/boating under the influence of an intoxicant. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was younger than 21.
During the week of March 16-22, police arrested 12 motorists and one boater for driving/boating under the influence of an intoxicant. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was younger than 21.
The arrests by district are: Puna and South Hilo, 4 each; Kona, 3; North Hilo and South Kohala, 1 each.
So far this year, there have been 213 DUI arrests compared to 310 during the same period last year, a decrease of 31.3 percent.
There have been 316 major accidents so far this year compared to 391 during the same period last year, a decrease of 19.2 percent.
So far this year, there have been five official traffic fatalities compared to three during the same period last year, an increase of 66.7 percent.
To date, two of those fatalities have been linked to drivers impaired by drugs, police said.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
