An unconscious woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after a 40-foot fall down an embankment near downtown Hilo.
According to a written Fire Department statement, the woman was found below Wainaku bridge on some rocks along the shoreline of the Wailuku River shortly after 3 p.m.
A county helicopter assisted in the rescue, but three firefighters had to rappel down the embankment to retrieve the woman due to power lines and trees in the area.
There was no word on the woman’s condition.
Police are classifying the incident as a public accident.
