Occupational therapist Karen Moriuchi was named the 2014 winner of the “Whatever It Takes and Then Some” customer service award at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo.
Moriuchi was honored for “going above and beyond as well as embodying the ‘aloha spirit,’” which is at the heart of the award.
Hale Anuenue staff describe Moriuchi as dedicated, creative and an advocate of the residents; a team player who gives selflessly to the residents and co-workers. Moriuchi’s contributions include modifying residents’ clothing for easier dressing along with finding culturally significant activities — such as making mochi for New Year’s Day — as a way to encourage reluctant residents to participate in therapy.
“Karen was chosen for the honor from 12 monthly ‘Whatever it Takes and Then Some’ winners, and it is with pleasure and pride that we present Karen with this award,” said Ivan Yamamoto, Hale Anuenue’s executive director.
“Karen consistently demonstrates a professional and personal commitment through compassionate care and service.”
