Born in Gillett, Wis., she was a retired registered nurse, Red Cross volunteer, avid card player and member of Christ Lutheran Church of Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park Hula Girls, quilting club and Hawaiian Paradise Park Senior Center. James William Thorpe Jr., 65, of Kailua-Kona died April 11 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Hudson, N.Y., he was a U.S. Navy commander, a 1972 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and lifetime member of Military Officers Association of America and U.S. Naval Institute.
