Once mired in last place in Division I, the Warriors (5-3) still have hopes of the top seed in the playoffs thanks to a three-game winning streak.
Taylor Nishimura finished with two hits and three RBIs, Tierra Teves had two hits and an RBI and Thomas drove in two runs.
Ogawa went the distance in the four-inning TKO, walking two and allowing two hits, including Taimane Kamaka’s run-scoring double in the third.
Joli Welch started but only recorded one out for Ka Makani (1-7).
Only 1 1/2 games separate the four teams in Division I. Waiakea sits in third place, one game in back of first-place Keaau (6-2), which hosts Division II unbeaten Kamehameha on Wednesday. A Cougars’ loss would likely mean both HHSAA berths would be up for grabs at BIIFs.
Waiakea, which finishes the regular season with games at Ka’u on Wednesday and at home against Honokaa on Saturday, holds the head-to-head tiebreakers against Hilo (6-3) and Keaau after beating both last week.
Kealakehe’s hopes of hosting a BIIF semifinal hinge on the Waveriders (5-4) winning at Hilo on Saturday and Waiakea losing another game.
