The top eight teams advance to the postseason tournament.

After two victories this past weekend, the Vulcans improved to 30-16 and are ahead of Cal State East Bay (25-22) and Western Washington (24-18).

UH-Hilo finished the regular season Saturday at home against Hawaii Pacific.

Vulcan men fifth in PacWest golf

A final round 304 enabled the University of Hawaii at Hilo to take fifth place at the Pacific West Conference men’s golf championship on the Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah.

The Vulcans closed with a 912 in the three-day tournament hosted by tournament champion Dixie State, who carded an 878 (286-292-300).

James Coon finished tied for seventh to lead the Vulcans. The freshman turned in rounds of 69-74-78 to close with a 221.

Waiakea graduate Dalen Yamauchi had a steady 76 all three days to finish tied for 16th at 228.

Also in the field for the Vulcans were Conner Graves (T23, 80-74-78—232), Kyeton Littel (T23, 80-79-72—232) and David Tottori (T35, 81-81-77—239).

Lady Vuls 7th in PacWest golf

In the Pacific West Conference women’s golf championship, the University of Hawaii at Hilo finished seventh at the Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah.

The Vulcans’ Andi Igawa finished tied for 13th with a 23-over-par 239 (77-79-83). Shannon Abarra was four strokes back (85-74-84—243) and tied for 18th place. Erin Costes was in 29th (91-86-80—257) and Mariah Paiste took 37th (93-92-96—281).

The Vulcans finished the tournament with a 1,020 (346-331-343).
