An escapee from Hale Nani Correctional Facility in Hilo has been picked up by police, while another inmate serving time on a meth trafficking conviction failed to check in Thursday at Kona Furlough House.
Police and Department of Public Safety officials said Thursday evening that 20-year-old Railee Santos of Mountain View, who had been reported missing on Feb. 16, was apprehended. A police log indicates he was arrested in Mountain View.
Santos, who was in custody for terroristic threatening, has been charged with escape, contempt of court and failure to maintain bail or bond. His bail was set at $10,150 and his initial court appearance was scheduled for today.
Santos was scheduled to be released from the community-based reintegration facility in Panaewa next month.
According to DPS, extended furlough inmate John Towle failed to check in at noon at the Kona Furlough House. An arrest warrant is being issued.
Towle is 44 years old. He is six-feet-tall, weighs 155 lbs and has brown hair and brown eyes.
Inmates in the extended furlough program live and work outside of the facility but must check in at various times.
Towle was scheduled for a parole hearing next month.
