Oahu-based freelance cinematographer Alex Werjefelt captured these arresting shots of the lava lake at the summit of Kilauea last week.
Currently, Werjefelt is working on a project featuring sights and sounds on each of the Hawaiian Islands. He spent Tuesday through Friday last week filming Kilauea Caldera and shortly thereafter released a beautiful montage on Youtube.
Despite some of the remarkably detailed closeups, the cinematographer said all footage was shot in areas where tourists are allowed to stand, including at the caldera overlook at the Jaggar Museum.
Werjefelt’s work can be found on his Facebook page, Life in the Hawaiian Islands, or at www.lifeinthehawaiianislands.com.
