Today marks the 10th anniversary of this K-drama column. In celebration of this anniversary, I have prepared a special event called ‘North Korea: A New Generation,’ featuring North Korean defector Yeonmi Park. She was named one of the Top 100 Women by the BBC last year.
There is very little known about life in North Korea. North Korean celebrity defector Park, who has been on a global tour, will be in Honolulu Tuesday, May 19, for a free speaking engagement to talk about her life in North Korea, why she decided to defect and the hardships she faced making treacherous travels through China and the desert for 2 years before finally ending up in South Korea.
Many North Korean defectors have a hard time adjusting to life in South Korea and some have defected back to the North.
The event will be held at St. Louis School Mamiya Theatre, Honolulu, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. Get your free tickets at http://honoluluboxoffice.tix.com/Event.aspx?EventCode=750975 .
