Emma Taylor ran away with this honor – literally – on Maui by doubling up on gold in the hurdles for the second consecutive year at the HHSAA track and field championships.
Taylor says she’s at her best when she’s being pushed, and she was up to the challenge in the 100, outtouching Iolani’s Lindsey Combs by three one-hundredths of a second. The race reminded Taylor of her victory two years ago at states in which she won in come-from-behind fashion at Mililani. Later on during the 2013 state meet, Combs won the 300, relegating Taylor to silver. But that’s the only hurdling state final she’s failed to win in three years.
Taylor is just a junior.
Can you say seven-time state champion?
