Katrina Ombac of Hilo was named to the dean’s list at the University of Jamestown (N.D.) for the spring 2015 semester.
The dean’s list is comprised of students who have achieved at least a 3.5 GPA during the term and are taking at least 12 credits.
Qigong master to talk in Kona
Qigong master Zou Ping is offering an introductory talk and healing circle from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at DayLight Mind Coffee Company, 75- 5770 Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona. There is no charge.
Ping is a pracitioner of qigong, an ancient Chinese health care system. Ping is on the staff of Kokolulu Farm and Retreats in Hawi.

Gaspar Kona officer of month
The Kona Crime Prevention Committee named Kona Patrol Officer Justin Gaspar as Officer of the Month for May at a luncheon May 6 at Huggo’s restaurant in Kailua-Kona.
Gaspar was honored for his investigative skills, particularly in two cases described by Sgt. Mekia Rose as “meticulous” and “exemplary.”
Akaka Falls Lions busy
The Akaka Falls Lions Club participated in three service projects May 2.
The Lions Club started the day assisting the Men Against Violence (Hui Ho‘okupono) with the seventh annual Ohana Fun Day at Clem Akina Park. Free vision screenings were done for children and adults by the Lions Club.
Lions then went to set up for the Multiple Sclerosis Walk, and then made and sold smoothies for Hospice of Hilo’s Celebration of Life Walk.
