Antone “Tony” Gomes, Jr., 83, of Paauilo, died May 20 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Paauilo, he was retired from the former Hamakua Sugar Company and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa, Paauilo-Kalopa Kumiai, Paauilo Senior Citizens, Paauilo Pensioners Club, and Paauilo Badminton Club. Visitation from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa; funeral Mass at 7 p.m. Visitation again from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, June 5, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo with prayer service at noon. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park Ilima Section. Casual attire. Survived by son, Timothy (Leialoha) Gomes of Kona; daughter, Roxane (Steven, Sr.) Kalilikane of Paauilo; sister, Doris Smith of Arkansas; hanai son, Benjamin (Donna) Aguilar of Kalopa; hanai daughter, Fely (Gino) Pabre of Kona; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
