E Mau Na Ala Hele, the Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail staff, Hawaii State Na Ala Hele Trails and Access System, Ala Kahakai Trail Association and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel will celebrate National Trails Day on June 7.
The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel also is celebrating its 50th anniversary with “50 Acts of Aloha,” including hosting and participating in this trail maintenance event and celebration.
Hikers will walk the National Historic Trail on the Kohala Coast between Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, doing maintenance on the trail as needed. These volunteers will walk and work through the morning, have a potluck lunch and talk story of the history of the area after lunch.
Those who want to participate should bring gloves, small trimming tools (if available), hats, sun protection, a water bottle, closed-toe footwear and a dish to pass for lunch.
The event is free and open to the public, but limited to 30 participants. Reservations are required.
Registration is at 8 a.m. and parking is limited; carpooling advised.
