A 34-year-old Mountain View man faces a robbery charge after allegedly hitting an employee who tried to detain him for shoplifting at the Hilo Home Depot store.
At 2:30 p.m. May 26, police responded to the Makaala Street store.
An employee told police he tried to detain a man who tried to leave the store without paying for items in his possession. Police say the suspect reportedly struck the employee.
The suspect, Patrick K. Elaban, was arrested at the scene. He was charged May 28 with second-degree robbery.
His bail was set at $5,000, and his initial court appearance was May 29.
