A Pahoa man was arraigned Tuesday on a charge he tried to sexually assault a minor girl.

Hilo District Judge Barbara Takase ordered 42-year-old Wendell Reed Santiago to return at 2 p.m. today for a preliminary hearing.

Santiago faces charges of attempted sexual assault of a minor, a Class A felony punishable by up to 20 years imprisonment, plus domestic abuse and two counts of providing alcohol to a minor, all misdemeanors.

The charges stem from an alleged Sunday incident in Pahoa.

Santiago remained in custody Wednesday at Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $54,000 bail.
