Shriners Hospitals for Children-Honolulu has partnered with Hamakua-Kohala Health and will open an outreach clinic June 10 in Honokaa.
The outreach clinic brings Shriners Hospitals’ pediatric orthopaedic and neurodevelopmental expertise to Hamakua-Kohala Health and the North Hawaii community.
Children up to age 18 with bone, joint and muscle conditions such as scoliosis, club foot, and sports injuries, as well as neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism, ADHD, and epilepsy can remain close to home while receiving world-class compassionate care.
“Shriners Hospitals is a proud partner with Hamakua-Kohala Health in improving access to much-needed medical care for Hawaii Island keiki,” said John White, CEO/administrator of Shriners Hospitals for Children-Honolulu. “We are thrilled more children in our community can receive pediatric orthopaedic and neurodevelopmental services regardless of their family’s ability to pay.”
“Our mission is to provide access to health services for everyone, whether they have insurance or not,” said Irene Carpenter, CEO of Hamakua–Kohala Health. “The partnership with Shriners Hospitals allows us to help children without having to fly the child and the parent to Oahu.”
Only a few appointments remain for the first outreach clinic Wednesday with Shriners pediatric neurologist Dr. Ryan Lee. Lee is the director of the Neurodevelopmental Clinic at Shriners Honolulu.
He is the only pediatric neurologist with special emphasis in neurodevelopmental disabilities in Hawaii and the only pediatric neurologist in Shriners’ 22-hospital system in North America.
Shriners pediatric orthopaedic surgeon Jonathan Pellett will lead the outreach clinic from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. July 16. Pellett was named 2014 Physician of the Year by the Healthcare Association of Hawaii.
New orthopaedic patients are welcome and clinic appointments can be made by calling 941-4466 or toll free 1-888-888-6314. Hamakua-Kohala Health is at 45-549 Plumeria St., Honokaa.
