More than 80 archers from throughout the Big Island and Oahu competed at the Hawaii Island Archery Club Memorial Shoot at the Puunene course on Saddle Road.
Braving cool temperatures that dipped to the mid-40s, competitors shot arrows at 3-D animal targets.
Archers from were treated to a hearty lunch prepared by club supporters James and Rosie Organ. Club spokesman Charlie Kawamoto thanked sponsors Sakata Archery, Among Archery, C&S Hunting Specialist, JSO Enterprise and J&R Archery for donating prizes.
An upcoming shoot, HIAC’s 2015 Hawaii State 3-D Archery Tournament sanctioned by the National Field Archery Association, will start at 9 a.m. June 20 at Kapapala Ranch in Ka‘u. The event is open to all archers.
The cost is $30 for adults, $15 for youths 14 and younger. Lunch is included. Additional lunches will be available for nonshooters for $5. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
Classifications are master senior (70 and older), silver senior (60 and older), senior (50 and older), adult (18 and older), young adult (15-17), youth (12-14), cub (9-11) and peewee (8 and younger).
Categories include NFAA/guest shooter, bowhunter bare bow, freestyle, freestyle limited, FITA bowhunter freestyle, bowhunter freestyle limited, traditional, long bow and wooden arrows.

The Hawaii Island Archery Club is a group based in Hilo whose goal is to promote the sport of archery — hunting and target shooting.
