Watercolors actually are very accessible and versatile paints with unequaled amounts of creative potential.

Water also is a very active and multifaceted partner in the watercolor painting method.

It differs from oil or acrylic paints that pretty much stay where they are put and dry more or less in the form they are applied. Water changes the absorbency and shape of the paper when it is wet and the outlines and appearance of the paint as it dries.

An added fun fact: Watercolor dries approximately three times lighter than the color you see when it is wet.

It’s time to immerse yourself in this wonderful art medium. Join Lisa Louise Adams in six sessions exploring the rainbow in her “Watercolor 101” workshop at Volcano Art Center.

During the one-hour sessions, participants will learn watercolor painting basics and skills.

By learning these basic fundamentals, you will be on your way to creating your own masterpiece.

No previous experience needed. Bring your joy of discovery and sense of adventure.

The Monday classes are 10-11 a.m. June 22 and 29, and July 6, 13, 20 and 27 at VAC’s Niaulani Campus.

The cost is $54 for VAC members, $60 for nonmembers. Supplies provided for the first class.
