Thanks, mayor

Thanks, mayor

I am writing this letter in defense of Mayor Billy Kenoi. Whatever money was spent by Mayor Kenoi and his staff was for the good of the County of Hawaii.

I think you have to take care of dignitaries and show them the aloha spirit. Mayor Kenoi has a big heart. He helped the surfer at age 15 and made him an ambassador of the Big Island when he sent him to compete on the mainland. He had the surf clinic, which is very important for aquatic safety for all.

Mayor Kenoi spends money to make money for our county. He tries to attend all youth league opening ceremonies and always gives a great speech to our young athletes. Mayor Kenoi is a mayor with a big heart and always thinks of our county.

People forget Mayor Kenoi has done a lot of upgrades at county parks to provide a safe environment for youth to play.

As a youth leader and abiding citizen of our county, I support Mayor Kenoi.

‘One and all’

What should we, as a nation do, about Iraq, Syria, Iran, Palestine, Israel, Yemen, southeast Asia, China, Libya, Central and South America, and on and on? In every instance, we should never lose sight of our ultimate objective in life.

This unique planet is our home, and thus we want to prove being worthy of it by transforming it into the paradise it has the potential to be for one and all.

“One and all” because we belong to one species, and without exception every single one us is a citizen of this planet. In addition, none of us has had a choice regarding the environment within which we were born, including who our parents were/are!

So, how are we supposed to create that paradise for one and all? By believing we can achieve two fundamental and intertwined objectives.

First, at every level of the society, and in every society across the globe, humanity’s most important objective should be to create an environment so every child on this planet has the opportunity to reach their fullest potential in service to themselves and others.

Second, at every level of the society, and in every society across the globe, humanity’s most important objective should be to create an environment so every human being has a fair share of the resources of the glorious “spaceship Earth” we are blessed with.

We in these United States of America are in a unique position to set an example so we are worthy of being emulated.

Our primary objective should thus be legitimate worldwide peace and the wisest use of the world’s resources. Unfortunately, with 5 percent of the global population, we are using about 25 percent of its resources.

We talk about democracy. Let’s set the best example within our own country. We consider ourselves as “the leader of the free world.” Let us help make the whole world free.

Regarding the trouble spots in the world, in general, there should be a direct correlation between the level of responsibility and the physical distance from each trouble spot. We cannot and should not spread ourselves thin while neglecting our own needs at home.

By the way, the word “isolation” regarding global affairs is no longer an option.
