In conjunction with the 2015 Kohala Reunion, North Kohala Public Library in Kapaau will exhibit a selection of historic photographs of Kohala from Monday through July 10.
The display of photographs from the library archive collection focuses on the sugar plantation era in North Kohala. The exhibit of 24 photographs portrays homes, public spaces, landscapes and plantation facilities in Kohala from 1880-1963.
The photographs for the exhibit were selected from the collection of several hundred historic photographs housed in the library archive collection. Many of the library’s photographs initially were gathered as part of a Bond Memorial Library historic photo project in the early 1980s.
Other photographs were donated to the library from two earlier Kohala Reunions in 2005 and 2010. Individual families and organizations also contributed to the archival collection at the library.
The exhibit can be viewed during the library’s open hours from noon-8 p.m. Mondays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Fridays.
