Mountain View man a Marine

Pvt. Phillip Kekahuna III of Mountain View graduated from Marine Corps recruit training in San Diego on May 8 with an expert riflery badge.

Kekahuna attended Marine combat training at Camp Pendleton, San Diego, for a month before leaving for avionics technician classes in Pensacola, Fla., for a year.

Kekahuna is a 2014 Kamehameha Schools Hawaii graduate.

His family members include parents, Phillip Jr. and Ann Kekahuna, and sisters, Amanda and Ashley Kekahuna.

Sturges earns lieutenant bars

Parker School alumna Anna Sturges graduated in May from the Unveristy of California at Berkeley with majors in legal studies and English.

Sturges also was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force on May 17, having been in the ROTC program at UC-Berkeley.

She has been granted an educational leave for the next three years to study at Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law on a full-ride academic scholarship before beginning her military service.

Sturges was one of only two cadets in the country to be selected by the Air Force for an education leave this year.

She was sworn into the Air Force by her cousin, Air Force Maj. Andrew Pence, who traveled from his base in Mississippi for the ceremony.

Sturges is the daughter of Carl and Ruth Sturges of Waimea.

Air Force basic training completed

Air Force Airman 1st Class Kathryn Jane F. Arib and U.S. Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Naehu W. Tisalona-Watson and Airman Mason J. Hulen graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

The airmen completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Arib is the granddaughter of Melendrina Fabia of Keaau and the daughter of Alberto and Jean Gloria Arib of Ewa Beach, Oahu.

Tisalona-Watson is the son of Heather K. Cahill and Paul F. Tisalona of Mountain View, Hawaii. Tisalona-Watson is a 2014 graduate of Kamehameha Schools-Hawaii in Keaau.

Hulen is the son of Carl and Jenny Hulen of Holualoa. He is a 2014 graduate of Hualalai Academy.
