HONOLULU (AP) — After three men riding in a pickup truck bed were killed on Maui, one state legislator renewed resolve to change the laws governing such cargo.
Currently riding in truck beds is legal if the passenger is at least 12 and all seats in the cab are full.
Sen. Clarence Nishihara, who proposed a bill this year that would have made it illegal for anyone younger than 18 to ride in the back of a pickup, says truck beds should be used for moving household items and taking trash to the dump, not a means of travel.
