HONOLULU (AP) — An anonymous donor has pledged to match donations sent to a Honolulu nonprofit focused on humanely lowering the island’s feral cat population.
Any donations made to Hawaii Catfriends this week will be matched up to $50,000. That money will then be used for spaying and neutering of feral felines. Spaying and neutering helps control overpopulation.
Catfriends President Jennifer Kishimori says the organization fixes more than 3,500 cats a year. The Human Society also fixes more than 2,000 feral cats annually.
Costs for sterilizations range from $40 for a male cat to $150 for a female dog. Hawaii Catfriends charges $5 for feral felines, with the nonprofit paying for the additional costs.
