A handful of people took to Kinoole Street next to Lincoln Park on Monday in downtown Hilo to protest signs recently displayed there.
The group, which calls itself “Take Back Lincoln Park,” is objecting mainly to an image of an aborted fetus displayed by James Borden.
The image was not on display Monday, as a small contingent courted passersby with signs such as “Take Back Da Park” and “Honk 4 Aloha.”
One of the protesters, Jeri Gertz, said Borden’s recent “graphic images crossed the line of what this community finds acceptable,” noting the county park has a playground.
The group said it plans to continue picketing.
Borden, who calls himself and his followers the “Yahweh Lincoln Park Ministry,” said Yahweh (God) has brought him to Lincoln Park.
“I’m showing what happens to unborn babies,” Borden said, adding, “What’s really hateful is abortion.”
For the past 4 1/2 years, Borden has posted signs in the rear of his pickup truck to protest issues including Islam, homosexuality and President Obama, as well as abortion.
