Island nurses to give disaster info

Hawaii Island public health nurses will be available from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 7 at several locations islandwide to educate the public about essential items recommended to store in the event of natural disasters or emergencies.

Nurses also will provide information about disaster response and preparedness.

Participating locations are KTA Super Stores in Hilo, Waimea, Waikoloa and Kailua-Kona and J. Hara Store, Oshima Store, Choicemart and Malama Market in Pahoa and Ocean View.

Yoga retreat slated at Kalani

Puna yoga practitioner Kimberly Dark will host a yoga and story retreat Dec. 14-18 at Kalani retreat center in Pahoa.

All bodies and stories are welcome with Dark, also known for her writing and facilitation workshops on the island.

When she’s not at home in Puna, she travels the world teaching and performing — and often, her workshops include yoga.

Dark has been a yoga practitioner for decades and a teacher for 15 years. Low kamaaina rates are available for her five-day program.
