Artist Ann Asakura conducted a workshop titled “Japanese Textiles: See. Touch. Smell.” last week at the Hawaii Japanese Center. Asakura’s presentation gave an introduction to Japanese fabrics from weaving, dyeing, surface decoration techniques and cultural significance. The Hawaii Japanese Center also has textiles made by master artisans on display in the Japan Foundation exhibit called “Handcrafted Form: Tradition and Techniques.”
