HONOLULU (AP) — Honolulu police say they will hold an internal investigation into the death of a man who was hit by a Taser.
The Medical Examiner’s Office has classified the death of 38-year-old Sheldon Haleck as a homicide.
A police video released earlier this week shows Haleck struggling during his March arrest for disorderly conduct. Officers used pepper spray and shot him twice with an electric stun gun.
The medical examiner said Wednesday that Haleck was intoxicated by methamphetamine and died from complications of the struggle with police.
The officers involved in the arrest are still on regular duty. Police have not said how many officers were involved.
Officers described Haleck as “combative” and say the pepper spray and Taser did not stop him from running away.
