Owen Hisashi Ariki, 74, of Hilo died May 7 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired real estate broker. Services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by wife, Anne Ariki of Hilo; son, Jason (Cathy) Ariki of Hilo; daughter, Lynn (Floyd) Murashige of Honolulu; stepsons, Alton (Willa) Nakamichi and Tad (Madelyn) Nakamichi of Kauai; two granddaughters. Dr. Charles Hayden Belcher, 90, of Hilo died June 19 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Muskogee, Okla., he was a retired physician. Services held. Joseph Carl Gambsky, 63, of Volcano died April 30 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a roads and trails supervisor at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and U.S. Navy Seabees veteran. Danette “Sis” Awapuhi Kamelamela, 57, of Hilo died May 14 at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Oceanside, Calif., she was a former receptionist for Alu Like on Oahu, former volunteer for Thy Word Ministries, and member of Hawaiian Bowling Club and Puuwai Opio Kupuna Softball League. Celebration of life service 1-7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Wailoa State Park pavilion No. 2. Aloha attire. Ernest “Ernie” “Papa” Rodrigues, 78, of San Jose, Calif., died June 24 at home. Born on the Big Island, he loved to fish, travel and spend time with family. Kwanichi “Uncle Kanchi” Yuda, 89, of Hilo died June 12 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Hilo, he was a county retiree, former instructor for Hilo Hongwanji Kendo Club, U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.
