After helping to guide Kamehameha’s junior varsity boys basketball program since 2007, Vince Ulloa is taking over the top job.

The Warriors announced Tuesday that Ulloa will replace veteran coach Dominic Pacheco, who led Kamehameha to BIIF Division I championships in 2011 and 2012.

An English teacher at Hilo Intermediate, Ulloa previously coached at Maryknoll, Waianae and Mililani on Oahu.

Kamehameha is coming off of a BIIF runner-up campaign in which it finished 9-7 and is slated to return a solid nucleus that includes Bayley Manliguis, Solomon Escalante and Pukana Vincent.

Also, the Warriors selected Tracy Aruga to take over the air riflery program from George Van Gieson.

Aruga served as volunteer assistant last season.

Under Van Gieson’s leadership, the Warriors were finally able to make a dent in Waiakea’s BIIF dominance, producing an individual champion in each of the past two years.
