Big Islanders Ty Kauai and Macey Loando swept All-Around Cowboy and Cowgirl honors last weekend at the 60th Makawao Rodeo on Maui.

With countless titles and buckles to her credit, Loando is no stranger to victory. The 2009 Kealakehe graduate is a two-time Miss Rodeo Hawaii and was a runner-up in May at the Honokaa Western Week rodeo.

But she considers her performance at Makawao to be her greatest accomplishment in a sport she’s been participating in all her life.

“Since the beginning of the year, I made it a goal to come to Maui and do well,” she said. “My heart and my favorite event is team roping. I’m a header.”

Kauai is also an avid roper, and he also specializes in bull riding. He formerly played baseball and football at Honokaa.
