Cha-cha dance classes offered

Cha-cha dance classes offered

Beginner, intermediate and advanced ballroom dance classes, featuring American cha-cha, are being offered at the Kamana Senior Center in Hilo and the Keaau Community Center beginning Friday through Sept. 11.

The beginner and intermediate classes will start at 9 a.m. Fridays at the Kamana Senior Center, 127 Kamana St.

The intermediate and advance classes start at 6:30 p.m. Fridays at the Keaau Community Center.

The cost of each class is $10; dancers must be 55 years or older.

Billfish tourney needs volunteers

The Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament needs volunteers to assist during the 56th annual event.

Volunteers are needed Aug. 6-16 for a variety of tournament support, including Kailua pier operations, pre- and post-tournament setup and breakdown, HIBT retail boutique, headquarters administration, security and more.

Positions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Each volunteer will receive an HIBT T-shirt and discounted parking for shift volunteers in return for their time.

The 2015 HIBT is set for Aug. 9-15.

Taste of Hilo tickets on sale

The Japanese Chamber of Commerce announced tickets are on sale for the 17th annual Taste of Hilo scheduled for 1-3 p.m. Oct. 18 at Sangha Hall.

The Taste of Hilo features more than 35 restaurants, chefs, dessert patisseries and beverage distributors, who provide their talents, ingredients and staff to make this annual event a success.

Tickets are $50 presale, $65 at the door, and are subject to availability.

A portion of event proceeds go to support Hawaii Community College.

Charter school hosts ‘runraiser’

Laupahoehoe Com-munity Public Charter School will present its second annual My School Color Run on Aug. 29.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race starts at 8. The run will take place on the upper-school campus, 35-2065 Old Mamalahoa Highway.

Pre-sale pledges begin at $25; pledges the day of event will be $30.
