Ota completes USAF training
U.S. Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Ashleigh K. Ota graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Ota also earned distinction as an honor graduate. She is the granddaughter of Henry and Yuriko Ota of Kailua-Kona, and Daniel and Martha Keliiaa of Kealakekua.
Big Island man in Marine Corps
Pfc. Angel Daniel Flores Beck, 20, of Fern Forest graduated June 19 from U.S. Marine boot camp at Marine Corps Re- cruit Depot San Diego, where he earned an expert shooter badge. Beck completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training as one of 53 recruits in Training Platoon 3255.
After 10 days home on leave, he reported to Camp Pendleton for military combat training. He will be stationed at Fort Benning, Ga.
Beck attended Keaau High School and Hawaii Community College, where he studied criminology. His parents are John and Barbara Beck, and he has three brothers and one sister living on Hawaii Island.
