The county Department of Parks and Recreation announced Thursday it temporarily closed Hilo’s Charles “Sparky” Kawamoto Swim Stadium to repair a malfunctioning pump. The pool will remain closed until further notice, according to a press release.

To accommodate swimmers, the Department of Parks and Recreation has modified Hilo’s NAS Swimming Pool schedule to allow daily public recreational swimming and lap swimming.
The modified schedule for the NAS Swimming Pool is as follows:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings
• Public recreational/lap swimming (width of pool), 6-9 a.m.
Weekday evenings
• Public recreational/lap swimming (width of pool), 5:30-7:10 p.m.
Tuesdays
• Public recreational/lap swimming (width of pool), 6-9:45 a.m.
Thursdays
• Public recreational/lap swimming (width of pool), 8:30-9:45 a.m.
Weekends
• Public recreational swimming, 8:30-10:45 a.m.
• Lap swimming, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
• Public recreational swimming, 1-4:10 p.m.
“The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks pool users and the general public for their understanding and patience while the repair work is being performed,” the release reads.
